What is a DOT Physical?
A DOT physical is a federally mandated medical exam required for commercial drivers operating vehicles across state lines or transporting certain types of cargo or passengers. These exams ensure a driver is physically capable of performing their duties safely and legally.
The exam typically takes 20–30 minutes and includes:
- Personal health history review
- Vital signs and physical exam
- Vision and hearing test
- Urinalysis (checks for diabetes or other conditions — not a drug test)
If you pass, you’ll receive a Medical Examiner’s Certificate valid for up to 24 months (shorter durations may apply for certain conditions).
